My lovely rhubarb

I think I mentioned in my first (and last) blog post that we had had our back garden "landscaped" as part of the aesthetic upgrade in preparation of trying to sell our house. And the gardeners thought they had got rid of my rhubarb. But ha! Nature triumphs, and the rhubarb is back. It came up too late (probably for harvesting. But I am not going to let it be cut down again, or if it is, I will at least know that the crowns are still there, waiting for me to rescue them to a new home where they will be properly cherished and not treated like a weed.

While we're on the subject of rhubarb:
It's my opinion that "Strawberry Rhubarb (Pie)" stems from a modern misunderstanding.
Strawberries, IMO, don't do well cooked except in jam.
Strawberry rhubarb, in some places, including the US mid-west where rhubarb pie has been a staple for a long time.
Can't you imagine a cookbook writer or newspaper columnist, looking for a "new" recipe seizing on the hapless early strawberry and putting it together with rhubarb?
I've not found incontestable evidence to the contrary. If anyone else has an opinion, I'd like to see the thread expanded. (I'll lead the fight to eliminate the ghastly confection that spoils good strawberries and good rhubarb too.)
